A Midsummer Night's Dream

Described by critics as ‘joyously inventive and touching’, A Midsummer Night’s Dream immerses the audience in a strange and delightful story of love and mischievousness with dazzling dramatic poetry. Hermia loves Lysander and Helena loves Demetrius – but Demetrius is supposed to be marrying Hermia… When the Duke of Athens tries to enforce the marriage, the lovers take refuge in the woods and wander into the midst of a dispute between the king and queen of the fairies.

Directed by the Globe’s Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole, with music from internationally renowned composer Claire van Kampen and designs by Tony Award-nominated designer Jonathan Fensom, this production is inventive, warm, lively and affectionate.

Dromgoole, whose production was described by The Independent as “compelling and very funny” commented that ““A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an enchanting, earthy, funny and – even in its most supernatural moments – profoundly human play. I hugely enjoyed exploring it at the Globe.”
