Ingrid Goes West

"Aubrey Plaza is brilliant in 'Ingrid goes West,' Matt Spicer's smart, satirical and sometimes scathing takedown of the vapidity social media sometimes injects into life." - Arizona Republic

You are #blessed.

It’s a world of social media influencers, lifestyle bloggers and people famous for seemingly no reason at all, and Ingrid wants in. After spending time in a mental hospital (for macing an Instagram celebrity who didn’t invite Ingrid to her wedding, so you can sort of see where she’s coming from), Ingrid comes into some money and makes her way out to LA to get closer to her latest Instagram obsession, Taylor Sloan. What follows is a hilarious and harrowing descent into madness for the sake of a few likes.

PARKS AND REC superstar Aubrey Plaza is Ingrid, bringing her trademark dryness to a sociopathic level as Ingrid, the Travis Bickle of the social media age. Opposite her is The Avengers’ own Elizabeth Olsen as Taylor, effortlessly graceful and fashionable… except for all the effort she puts into every shot. STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON’s O’Shea Jackson Jr is Dan, Ingrid’s landlord/boyfriend and just as much of a delusional dreamer as everyone else hustling and bustling their way through the desperately sunny streets of Los Angeles.

Director Matt Spicer makes his feature debut here, and you should take note - this is a filmmaker who adroitly balances beautiful style with acerbic wit, bringing us characters who are both fully human as well as cyanide-sweet satires of this modern moment. INGRID GOES WEST is the dark, knowing comedy for the era of retweets and faves, a movie in the grand tradition of HEATHERS, ELECTION, KING OF COMEDY and AMERICAN PSYCHO. - Alamo Drafthouse
