Le Club Vinland (The Vinland Club)

AFKW presents "Le Club Vinland" as part of the French Film Festival

The Vinland Club is the story of an exceptional teacher in a boys' college in eastern Quebec in the late 1940s. Adored by his students, but perceived as too provocative by his superiors, the charismatic Frère Jean was a progressive harbinger of the changes to come in Quebec in the 1950s and 1960s. Wanting to solve a historical enigma, motivate his students and prevent the dropout of Émile, a struggling student, Frère Jean undertook to conduct archaeological excavations aimed at proving the existance of a Viking colony (Vinland) on the coast of the St. Lawrence. The endevour will turn the life of the college upside down and will leave its mark on the destinies of young Émile – and of Brother Jean himself.
