Riceboy Sleeps

Set in the 1990s, a Korean single mother raises her young son in the suburbs of Canada determined to provide a better life for him than the one she left behind.

It was filmed in the Vancouver area, as well as Korea, and has been the recipient of numerous awards. The film was named to TIFF's annual year-end Top Ten List of Canadian Films for 2022.

"Nothing less than a heartbreaking, funny and often astoundingly beautiful piece of work, Riceboy Sleeps is a new Canadian classic." - The Tyee, British Columbia

"This tender and tragic film gracefully expresses not only the sense of being an outsider, but tells the story in a way that all audiences can understand, making it easier for viewers to relate to the immigrant experience in a mostly white country." - Screen Zealots
