Apr 19 - 25: Let us entertain you this Easter and all week long!

We have a full slate of fantastic entertainment starting Good Friday. We have a family film, Mia and the White Lion (described as a cross between Boyhood --because it was filmed over several years-- and Wild Kingdom). The Invisibles is a gripping docudrama tracing the stories of four real-life Jews who learned to hide in plain sight in Nazi Germany. Don't miss Zhangke Jia's Ash is Purest White, a story of the underworld unlike anything you've seen before. Monty Python & the Holy Grail will have you laughing Friday night and on Saturday Harry Manx will have grooving. We have Studio Ghibli (Mirai); Kubrick (Full Metal Jacket); a locally-shot horror film with its up-and-coming director in attendance; the International Flyfishing Film Fest; Dreyer's 1932 silent horror classic, Vampyr, with live soundtrack; the Audience Award Winner at this year's Banff Film Festival, The Bikes of Wrath (also a fundraiser for 541 Eatery) and finally, Tommy Wiseau's cult classic, The Room! Bring spoons!

"A kind of cross between Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Wild Kingdom, Mia and the White Lion is a coming-of-age story with big cats that was filmed over multiple years, allowing the child actors (and the starring lion) to age before us on screen while forming genuine physical and emotional bonds uniquely leveraged by the filmmakers." - Original Cin

“Shot over the course of three years, Mia and the White Lion centers on a willful young girl named Mia whose family decides to leave London to manage a lion farm in South Africa.

“A well-dressed woman jumps from the limo of her mobster boyfriend, gun in hand. She fires a shot into the air and then points the weapon at street punks who are attacking her boyfriend and his driver. "Merits comparison to works of similar relevance and poetic ambitions, like 'Shoplifters' and 'Roma,' masterworks that share its inquiries about familial ties, parental insecurities, and the inescapable pull of the past." - TheWrap

Golden Globe Nominee! Best Animated Feature “Japanese animation master Mamoru Hosoda delivers a story of such intimate, unpretentious simplicity. Mirai — which inventively depicts the way a young boy’s world is turned upside down by the arrival of a baby sister — could not have been made by anyone else.

“Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket establishes its grip on the viewer's attention instantaneously, with an opening scene in which young recruits are shorn by an off-screen Marine Corps barber, while a corny, lulling song is heard in the background. The scene would be ordinary, even a cliche, were it not for the look on the young men's faces.

"To make a movie so bad it's good you need vision, drive, luck and obsessive vanity. Fortuitously Tommy Wiseau appears to possess all of these qualities, combined with a total lack of acting talent." - The Guardian

Celebrate 20 years of The Room!

“Tommy Wiseau’s The Room may be the first true successor to the Rocky Horror throne.  Wiseau's Johnny is the noblest of boyfriends and most capable of lovers. But none of that satisfies his fiancée Lisa, a wicked Jezebel whose boredom with Johnny manifests in a brazen affair with his best friend.

The plot of this Raymond Chandler-esque comedy crime caper from the Coen Brothers (Joel Coen and Ethan Coen) pivots around a case of mistaken identity complicated by extortion, double-crosses, deception, embezzlement, sex, pot (lots of it), and gallons of White Russians (made with fresh cream, please).
