New health measures at the cinemas, plus other news

princess_restrictions_newsletter.png

Effective Dec 19, the province has required all cinemas in Ontario to enact new health measures. For the foreseeable future:

  • our capacity will be reduced to 50%
  • food and beverages cannot be consumed on the premises

We thank you in advance for adhering to these measures: you cannot bring your own snacks.

  • Please be reminded that you must wear your masks at all times, including while seated in the auditoriums
  • Vaccine passports and photo ID continue to be required

Although we are disappointed by these new restrictions, it is understandable. We are relieved that we can stay open (for now). We believe these new measures will make the cinemas extremely safe, and we encourage you to see our current films --Dune, French Dispatch, Belfast, NIGHTMARE ALLEY and, (starting Dec 24) LICORICE PIZZA-- while you can.

Sadly, we anticipate that cinemas may be locked down again, but hopefully it won't come to that. As many of you will recall, the post-Christmas / pre-Oscar season is our busiest time at the Princess and very important to our business. Last year it was lost, and it looks like this year may be a repeat. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst! The arts industry has been hard hit.

While we are allowed to be open showing movies, we cannot sell you snacks to take into the theatre; however, we CAN sell you snacks to TAKE HOME. We are reviving our POPCORN PICK-UP at the Twin, and our snackbar will be open daily FOR TAKE-OUT ONLY during cinema hours (check our daily schedule.) We have lots of cinema merch on offer, which make great gifts and stocking stuffers!

For those who like to get out of the house over the holidays, note that the Twin will be open everyday, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

At this time of the year at the Princess, we have a tradition of showing the most Oscar-worthy films. This year is no exception!

Now playing at the Twin, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro's NIGHTMARE ALLEY is a noir thriller with an all-star cast. "What I love about del Toro's Nightmare Alley is that it feels like his love letter to a bygone era in Hollywood, as well as a gorgeously haunting cautionary tale as old as time with incredible performances from both Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett." - Salon.com

LICORICE PIZZA opens December 24!

Paul Thomas Anderson's (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, The Master) new movie, LICORICE PIZZA opens at the Twin with a sneak preview on December 24. Barry Hertz from the Globe & Mail says, "Watch the best film of 2021 wherever and whenever you can, and be thankful there is still plenty of beauty in this world to go 'round."

Watch it on the big screen with us, while you can! Independent cinema is more than entertainment, it's community.
