We have an abundance of fantastic films ready to unspool at the Playhouse and we just wanted to take a moment to tell you about them!

CINEMA SPECULATION

Cinema Speculation is a new series inspired by the recently-published book of the same name written by Quentin Tarantino, in which he celebrates the films that inspired him as a young movie-goer.

THE FIFTH ELEMENT IN 35MM

Our ongoing 35mm presentations continue with THE FIFTH ELEMENT (Dec 14 & 16). Directed by Luc Besson and starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich, it's "a bold, bright, loud, rowdy, lush, extravagant science fiction space opera that wears its heart on its sleeve." It's also the 25th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than with a RARE 35MM screening? Don't miss it!

BLACK NARCISSUS & THE RED SHOES

maxresdefault_1581_107750624_0.jpg

Speaking of an unmissable celebration, we are longtime fans of the cinema of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and, coming up very soon, we have screenings of two of their most notable films.

blacknarcissus.jpg

BLACK NARCISSUS (Dec 8 & 11) is an utterly gorgeous film about a superfluity of nuns who crack under the tension of trying to establish a convent in the heady atmosphere of the Himalayas.

On Thursday Dec 15 and Sunday Dec 18, don't miss THE RED SHOES, perhaps the most perfect and complete art film ever made. Again, like many of The Archers' films, THE RED SHOES is a study of obsession, and Moira Shearer and Anton Walbrook absolutely shine in it, as do all the other esteemed performers from the dance world. This is an exquisite film to watch again and again.

Don't miss seeing these stunning Technicolor productions on our big screen! More titles from the brilliant team of Powell & Pressburger (aka 'The Archers') to come!
