“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas marks Dolly Parton’s second starring role on the big screen after her debut in 9 to 5. Parton stars as Mona Stangley, the madame of a well-known Texas bordello that is threatened when public pressure forces the governor of the state, played by Charles Durning, to order the closing of the whorehouse. Burt Reynolds plays Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd, who is given the unenviable task of seeing that the operation is shut down.
“The film is based on a 1978 musical of the same name, though it also features some of Parton’s original music, including her hit I Will Always Love You.
“Parton's southern charm is well-suited to her role, and Durning's performance as the put-upon governor earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.” - TV Guide
