“An eccentric world that you have never heard of, never seen...” - LA Times

This immersive, acclaimed documentary centers around a handful of men in search of rare, expensive and delicious white Alba truffles deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy. It's a rural way of life that's vanishing.

Special 35mm Presentation! Hamilton filmmaker and friend of the Playhouse, Terrance Odette, is bringing his 2006 feature, Sleeping Dogs to the Playhouse on Wed. Aug 25th. This is a fundraiser for Terry's next film project, so come out and show your support for local film! After this screening, which will be followed by a Q&A, the 35mm print will be heading to the library of the Archives of Canada. Last chance to see it on 35mm!

"The best rewards are small and subtle - like a Terrance Odette movie. " - Katherine Monk - Vancouver Sun

The Green Knight honors and deconstructs its source material in equal measure, producing an absorbing adventure that casts a fantastical spell.

The Truffle Hunters explores a world most viewers will know nothing about -- with delightfully savory results.

Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, a handful of men, seventy or eighty years young, hunt for the rare and expensive white Alba truffle—which to date has resisted all of modern science's efforts at cultivation. They're guided by a secret culture and training passed down through generations, as well as by the noses of their cherished and expertly-trained dogs.

40th Anniversary screening. Inspired by the scifi/fantasy magazine, classic rock soundtrack, voiced by SCTV alumni

"A step beyond science fiction..." Canadian headbangers in the early 80s dug the rocking soundtrack, the hilariously familiar SCTV-voices and all those comely visions of Amazons getting sexy with dorky robots. Yep, there's a lot of male gaze going on, but what a head-trip this movie was, and we're bringing it back. Big screen, big sound!
