FILMS SHOWING Thursday December 3 to Thursday December 10

We're thrilled to be welcoming Scott Merritt back to the Original stage on Thursday, December 3rd (accompanied by Jeff Bird of the Cowboy Junkies). It's been too long since Scott's last concert at the Princess (12 years, to be exact). Scott has a busy career producing Juno-winning records for the likes of Fred Eaglesmith, Stephen Fearing and Matt Anderson, so it's a true reason to celebrate the release of his new (long-awaited!) record, 'Of.' Don't miss this rare chance to see one of Canada's most original musicians Live on Stage. "A great music adventurer has given us yet another album to love." Thanks to our concert sponsor, Artefacts.

Thursday, Dec. 3rd at 7:30pm. Advance tickets on sale online ($20) and at the door ($25).

"...it's always a treat when Scott Merritt emerges from his self-imposed performing exile... remarkable, inspirational songs." Echo Magazine.

Scott Merritt, recording artist / music producer and "one of Canada's most original voices" (Jason Schneider), has returned 12 years after his last release with a new album, simply titled -Of - and it is quite unlike any other Scott Merritt album.

"A dog is at the heart of this film, but there's room for all manner of extraordinary insights about finding love and giving love, being canine and being human." - Wall Street Journal

"Near the end of her dreamy, drifty and altogether lovely movie 'Heart of a Dog,' Laurie Anderson does what she is so great at doing: She tells a story. This one is too powerful to ruin here, but the story and its placement speak to how she makes meaning.

Winner! Oscar for Best Actress (Brie Larson). "It's a deeply satisfying, profoundly moving adaptation of a popular novel, an all-too-rare occurrence in modern Hollywood." Winner, Golden Globe Best Actress

"Adapted from Emma Donoghue’s 2010 novel of the same name, this captivity narrative about a woman and her young son living in a 10-by-10-foot shed is no one’s idea of a feel-good story.

Golden Globe nominated! "Trumbo reminds us of a very dark time in America as well as Hollywood. Important but also hugely entertaining. Bryan Cranston nails it." - Deadline Hollywood

“Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) does sterling work in 'Trumbo' as an eloquent screenwriter who bucked the Hollywood blacklist and triumphed. Catnip for fans of old Hollywood, this highly entertaining biopic focuses on so-called 'swimming pool Communist' Dalton Trumbo, who was once Tinseltown’s highest-paid writer.

"Filmmaker Brian D. Johnson rejuvenates the life and work of Canadian poet Al Purdy in this complex and engaging documentary." - Toronto Sun

“An icon of English Canadian letters, the late Al Purdy was equal parts rock star, raconteur, and rabble rouser — in other words, all poet.

"Heartbreaking and powerfully relevant, Suffragette's greatest achievement is that it gives a full-blooded picture of a struggle not so far removed in time, and still going forth in some corners of the world today." - National Post

"From the neglectful mother in 'Mary Poppins' to prissy spinsters sipping tea in silly hats, suffragettes have long been vilified and mocked in popular culture.

"That these brave women were the foot soldiers in a long and bloody war to win the right to vote has long been either ignored or forgotten.

"Michael Fassbender will be in every Best Actor conversation from now until Oscar night (and deservedly so) for his mesmerizing turn as the legendary and legendarily difficult visionary Jobs." - Richard Roeper

"As the demanding, egotistical, vicious, manipulative and prickish genius behind Apple, Michael Fassbender delivers a Steve Jobs who is magnetic in his contemptibility. He threatens subordinates, shoves his family aside, rips apart friendships, carries on a 19-year-long game of emotional abuse with his most loyal confidante and takes credit where little or none is due.

Canada Film Days. "It expertly mixes gorgeous footage -- whales, seals, the sky and the sea -- with cogent tales of practical living and activism." - National Post

Winner, Best Canadian Feature Documentary Award at Hot Docs

PG

"It satisfies as an absorbing yarn of authority-flouting adventure and as an example of stomach-flipping you-are-there-ness. The journey it offers viewers doesn't just span 140 feet, but also an ethereal, now-vanished, world." - Washington Post

"The line between gimmicky and magic can be mighty fine, but Robert Zemeckis masters it like a seasoned pro in The Walk.
